Jon Jones was hit with a one-year suspension by United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) earlier today (Mon., Nov. 7, 2016) for failing a pre-fight drug test prior to his scheduled light heavyweight championship showdown against bitter rival Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 this past summer.

Jones is eligible to return to action in July of 2017, since his suspension is retroactive to the date he was caught by USADA.

Naturally, UFC issued a statement following the time out.

“UFC is aware of the one-year sanction levied against Jon Jones as a result of his UFC Anti-Doping Policy violation, decided by a three-person arbitration panel held on Monday, October 31, 2016. UFC has been advised that the one-year suspension commenced on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. While the decision indicates no evidence of Jones’ intentional use of banned substances, it does highlight the care and diligence that is required by athletes competing in the UFC to ensure that no prohibited substances enter their system.”

Jones maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal, and is adamant that supplement pills aimed to help with erectile dysfunction were the root of the problem.

Needles to say, USADA wasn’t impressed.

The show will continue to go on with “Bones” on the sidelines, as current 205-pound king Daniel Cormier will next defend his title against Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 206, which is set to go down on Dec. 10, 2016 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

More on that fight here.

Meanwhile, with nothing but time on his hands, Jones is set to headline Chael Sonnen’s second “Submission Underground” event on Dec. 11, 2016 in Portland, Oregon against Dan Henderson; assuming Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) doesn’t try to step in and prevent it.
