It hasn’t been a good couple of weeks for Rashad Evans. After the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion was yanked from his scheduled fight against Tim Kennedy at UFC 205 — which was set to go down on Nov. 12, 2016, in New York City — because of issues with his medicals, “Suga” was forced out once again after the match was re-booked for UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada, on Dec. 10, 2016.
That’s because he wasn’t issued a license to fight by Office of the Athletics Commission in Ontario because of ongoing irregularities with his MRIs — or potential “brain damage” — as Kennedy put it. Nevertheless, “Suga” isn’t ready to call it a career just yet, echoing his manager’s statements that “he’s fine” on Twitter.
Despite the latest news on not getting a license to fight in Toronto I am 100% healthy. I will not retire. Thank yuh for the support

The @ufc have been very helpful with making sure I am ok and getting this cleared up. I apologize to @TimKennedyMMA for the inconvenience.

Indeed, despite outside noise, only Evans and his physicians fully understand what’s really going on inside his head. He seems confident that perhaps with additional medical opinions and follow up exams, he will be able to keep knocking heads as he’s been doing for more than one decade. For the sake of his health and well-being, let’s hope his medical issues aren’t too extreme or that his pride isn’t getting in the way of making the proper — yet difficult — career decision (again).
In the meantime, it seems with the assistance of the WME-IMG-owned fight promotion, Evans is taking all the proper steps to ensure that it is not the case and that he is healthy enough to keep competing.
Time will tell.
